The Magnetic Ring Attack on Electronic Locks – Schneier on Security is a round aluminum enclosure about four inches in diameter that contains several magnets in a concentric circle. When spun around some of the earlier designs of electronic cylinders, it would cause them to open. This was a significant security issue for lock manufacturers.
